“Hope” for Education? An Evening with Gerald Grant

Dr. Gerald Grant, The Hannah Hammond Professor of Education and Sociology Emeritus at Syracuse University will be our featured speaker, discussing his most recent book Hope and Despair in the American City (Harvard University Press, 2009.)  The book compares Raleigh, North Carolina with our own City of Syracuse and poses challenging questions about the future of urban America and the possibility of school reform.  Professor Grant is a distinguished scholar and author, winning numerous awards for his work.  Hope and Despair in the American City has been met with great praise and will provide a rich foundation for our discussion of the many problems plaguing society and the choices that confront us as educators in our own schools and communities.
