Central New York

Council for the Social Studies

Let's Talk the Same Talk : Conversations and Camaraderie around the        New Social Studies Framework and Toolkit
Have you been hearing a lot of new jargon in social studies, but aren’t sure how it all relates?  Inquiry?  Practices?  Framework?  There are exciting changes underway in our field, but it can be overwhelming to wade through the different information and prepare for new expectations alone.  We are replacing our traditional fall dinner this season with a workshop that will focus on building a community of educators; sharing together information and insights related to the “new” Social Studies.  This session will be an opportunity for you and colleagues to experience an inquiry as it might be presented in a classroom, engage in some facilitated discussion about teaching in this model, and connect the dots between inquiries and other elements of the changes in curriculum, instruction and assessment that are underway.

John Langdon & Stephanie Baran will brief us on the status of test development from the SED’s Content Advisory Panel.  Examples of implementation strategies and timelines from around Central New York will also be shared.  This will be an interactive and enlightening conversation that we hope establishes ongoing relationships and opportunities this year – bring a friend from any level K-12 and join us!
