SPRING DINNER MEETING

Thursday May 16th, 2013 5:30 in the evening

Genesee Grande Hotel

1060 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13210

featuring

"Rites of Spring: Sowing Common Ground for Equality and Justice through Social Work and Law"

Presented by Professor Paula C. Johnson

Syracuse University School of Law

This discussion will focus on the overlapping and distinct roles of the social work and legal professions to address critical issues of our time on matters of equality and justice. In particular, the discussion will examine the responsibilities of these of these professions regarding the needs of individuals and families within communities of color, LGBT communities, and those affected by mass incarceration. This discussion is particularly timely in light if the U.S. Supreme Court's impending decisions in these areas as well as the upcoming 50th anniversaries of major events during the Civil Rights Era. Our professions and the U.S. society broadly are called upon to rectify past and present injustices and create conditions for justice to bloom.
